Introduction:
SSL, a multi-disciplinary disability and adaptations company, is fully aware of the need to address climate change and reduce carbon emissions at the same time helping to tackle fuel and health poverty. As a leader in the field, we recognise our responsibility in mitigating the impacts of climate change. In line with our commitment to sustainability, we have developed a comprehensive Carbon Reduction Plan, outlining our strategies to significantly reduce carbon emissions and minimise our environmental footprint by 2050.
Goals & Objectives:
Carbon Neutrality: Achieve carbon neutrality across all company operations by 2050
Emissions Reduction: Drastically reduce carbon emissions associated with heating, electrical services, heat loss and energy usage.
Promote Sustainability: Become industry leaders in providing sustainable practices within the disability and adaptations sectors.
Stakeholder Education: Educate employees, customers, and stakeholders on the importance of carbon reduction and sustainable energy solutions.
Phase 1: 2023-2030
Energy Efficiency: a. Retrofit existing facilities with energy-efficient technologies, including smart HVAC systems, LED lighting, and advanced insulation. b. Invest in renewable energy sources such as solar panels and geothermal heating to power our operations. c. Promote remote work policies to reduce the need for office space and lower energy consumption.
Sustainable Practices: a. Source materials from suppliers with strong sustainability practices and are based locally, focusing on energy-efficient electrical components. b. Develop and implement innovative energy-saving solutions for clients, emphasising efficient electrical systems. c. Establish a comprehensive waste reduction and recycling program for both office and field operations.
Transportation: a. Transition the company fleet to electric and hybrid vehicles while creating a network of charging stations. Ensure as much as possible our suppliers are local. b. Promote sustainable commuting options for employees, such as carpooling, cycling, or public transportation.
Employee Engagement: a. Conduct regular training programs to raise awareness about carbon reduction and sustainable practices. b. Encourage telecommuting and flexible work arrangements, promote a working from home culture to reduce commuting emissions. c Champion sustainable initiatives within the organisation, provide incentives to promote and encourage best practice.
Phase 2: 2031-2040
Carbon Offset: a. Invest in carbon offset projects to compensate for emissions that cannot be eliminated. b. Forge partnerships with reforestation initiatives and renewable energy projects to amplify our impact.
Innovative Solutions: a. Research, develop, and promote cutting-edge, energy-efficient heating and electrical systems for residential and commercial use. b. Advocate for and implement energy storage solutions to optimise energy use and reduce waste.
Circular Economy: a. Commit to circular economy principles by refurbishing and recycling heating and electrical components. b. Invest in research and development for innovative, sustainable energy reduction technologies.
Phase 3: 2041-2050
Carbon Neutrality: a. Continue to reduce emissions from all operations and offset any remaining emissions to achieve comprehensive carbon neutrality. b. Continue to collaborate with suppliers and partners to further reduce the carbon footprint of our supply chain.
Advocacy and Industry Leadership: a. Advocate for stricter environmental regulations within the disability and adaptations reduction sectors. b. Share our carbon reduction journey and best practices with industry peers to create broader change.
Transparent Reporting: a. Publish annual sustainability reports to transparently communicate our progress to stakeholders. b. Collaborate with third-party organisations for independent verification and certification of our carbon reduction efforts.
Community Engagement: a. Engage with local communities in initiatives that support sustainability, renewable energy, and environmental education. b. Sponsor and actively participate and encourage staff and clients to get involved in carbon reduction and environmental awareness campaigns to promote sustainable living for all.
Monitoring and Evaluation: Continuously monitor, evaluate, and report on our carbon reduction progress. Adapt strategies as necessary to meet our ambitious goals and stay aligned with emerging technologies and best practices.
